About Cagliari, Italy

Cagliari, the sun-kissed capital of Sardinia, offers a perfect blend of history, culture, nature, and Mediterranean charm. The city’s historic core, Castello, perched on a hilltop, invites you to wander through cobbled streets, discover medieval towers, admire sweeping views from its bastions, and step into centuries-old buildings steeped in history. Notable landmarks include the 13th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria and the striking Roman amphitheater carved into the rock.

Culture enthusiasts can explore the Citadel of Museums, home to the National Archaeological Museum, which houses a remarkable collection of Nuragic bronzes, Phoenician relics, and Roman artifacts—tracing Sardinia’s ancient past. Art galleries and smaller museums throughout the city offer insights into local traditions and contemporary creativity.

Cagliari is also a city of vibrant street life. Via Manno and Via Garibaldi offer a mix of stylish boutiques and local artisans. At the same time, Via Roma and Corso Vittorio Emanuele are perfect for enjoying traditional Sardinian cuisine in lively cafés and trattorias.

For nature lovers, Poetto Beach—one of the longest city beaches in Europe—offers clear turquoise waters, beach clubs, and a lively atmosphere just minutes from the city center. Not far away lies Molentargius-Saline Park, a unique urban nature reserve where you can observe colonies of pink flamingos and other wildlife against the backdrop of old salt pans—an experience rare in the Mediterranean.

Whether you are looking to explore ancient history, relax by the sea, enjoy nature, or simply savor the rhythm of Sardinian life, Cagliari promises an unforgettable experience.

How to Get Here

Cagliari is easily accessible via its International Airport, Cagliari Elmas (IATA: CAG), which offers frequent flights to major European cities. We recommend a stopover of at least two hours if you use the airports in Rome (Fiumicino) or Milan (Linate) due to possible delays, overcrowding, and/or re-checking of checked baggage.

Below is the list of airlines that offered direct connections to Cagliari airport in the summer of 2025 that should be renewed for the following summer:

Cagliari Elmas Airport is well connected to the city center by train, with regular service operating from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. The journey takes just a few minutes and arrives at the central train station (Piazza Matteotti), located near major transport links.

Outside these hours, taxis are available with a fixed fare between the airport and most areas of the city (typically €25–30). However, waiting times can vary. Taxis can be booked by phone or via apps such as itTaxi, appTaxi, or Uber.

For those arriving by train, the central station is just a short bus ride from the conference venue (bus lines 5 and 8). Rental cars are also available at the airport, and limited parking is available near the venue.

For more information on public transport, you can use the Trenitalia app for trains and the CTM BusFinder app for local buses.

Getting around Cagliari is easy thanks to an efficient public transport network managed by CTM. Buses cover the entire city, including key locations such as the conference venue, train station, historic center, and beaches. Tickets can be purchased via the CTM BusFinder app or at kiosks and newsstands.

Taxis are readily available and can be booked through local cooperatives, by phone, or using apps like itTaxi, appTaxi, or Uber. While taxis are convenient, especially at night or for direct routes, public transport remains the most cost-effective option for moving around the city.

Walking is also a pleasant way to explore central Cagliari, with many attractions, shops, and restaurants within walking distance.
